After the Super Bowl each year, it’s customary for viewers to evaluate and rehash the commercials that aired during the game. Since Super Bowl ads are some of the most expensive options out there for brands, they tend to be more exciting or interesting than standard commercials. So how many people watched Super Bowl ads this year? And what were their favorite commercials?
Commercial Viewers
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 32% of respondents said they watched all of this year’s Super Bowl. And another 27% watched at least some of it. Of those viewers, 35% said they watched all of the commercials during the game. And 59% watched at least some of them.
Commercial Opinions
In general, people don’t seem as pleased with this year’s batch of Super Bowl ads as they have in past years. 43% said that they liked this year’s commercials less than those from past years. Just 19% said that they liked this year’s commercials more than those from past years. 32% said they liked them about the same as they have in past years. And 6% have no opinion about them. Doritos, Budweiser, Heinz, Honda, Toyota, Skittles and Pepsi were named as some of the brands that had the most popular Super Bowl ads this year.
Online Viewers
However, the actual game isn’t the only venue where people can watch Super Bowl commercials. Plenty of them are available for people to view online both before and after the game, giving those ads potentially even more visibility. 12% of respondents said they’ve watched multiple Super Bowl commercials online this year. 9% have watched at least one. And 21% said they might still watch some of those commercials online, though they haven’t actually done so yet.
