Super Bowl Survey: Nearly All Viewers Watch Commercials Too

Super Bowl Sunday is a major event each year, for both sports fans and others. Super Bowl commercials also get a lot of buzz. So how many Americans tuned in for the football’s biggest game this year? And what was their take on the ads that aired during the game?

Super Bowl Viewers

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 41% said they watched the whole Super Bowl this year. Another 21% said they watched at least some of it. And 39% said they didn’t watch the game at all. In a February 2, 2012 survey, 53% of respondents said they planned to watch last year’s Super Bowl. And another 14% said they might watch it.

17% of respondents said that the commercials are the whole reason they watch the Super Bowl. 40% of Super Bowl viewers said they did watch all the commercials. 40% said they watched some of them. And just 4% of Super Bowl viewers said they didn’t watch any of the commercials.

20% of commercial viewers said they thought the commercials during this year’s Super Bowl were better than those from past years. 22% said they thought this year’s Super Bowl commercials were worse than usual. 50% said they think they were about the same as usual. And 8% were undecided.

Football Fans

Overall, 23% of respondents said they always watch football throughout the rest of the season. Another 21% said they sometimes watch football during the regular season. 22% said they rarely do. And 34% said they never watch football during the rest of the year. Of those who watched at least some of the Super Bowl, 15% said they never watch football during the rest of the season.
