The Dress Survey: Everyone Split Over Dress Colors

Yesterday, social media was abuzz thanks to a simple photo of a dress. The dress appeared to be white and gold to some people and blue and black to others. People argued well into the night about the over-exposed photo, which apparently depicts a dress that is black and blue. So what did most people see when they looked at the dress?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 36% of respondents had seen photos of the dress last night. Of those respondents, 62% said they saw the dress on Facebook. 22% saw it on Twitter. 10% saw it on Tumblr. 19% saw the dress on online news sites. And 15% saw photos of it in other places, such as Reddit and Instagram.

Many who saw photos of the dress couldn’t help but talk about it with others. 20% of those who saw photos of the dress last night said they then posted about it on social media. 62% said they didn’t post anything themselves, but they saw others talking about it. And 18% didn’t share or see anything about the dress on social media last night.

Dress Color

Of those who saw the photo of the dress last night, 44% said they saw the dress as white and gold. 30% saw it as black and blue. 19% said it changes back and forth. And 7% saw different color schemes like white and blue or blue and brown.

But of those who didn’t see the dress before taking the survey, 76% said they see blue and black when they look at the dress photo. Just 10% see white and gold. And 14% see other color combos like blue and brown or blue and maroon.
