Transportation app Uber recently decided to cut its rates by 20% in New York City to better compete with other transportation options like traditional taxis. The app specializes in connecting drivers with people looking for rides in a particular city. But many people have yet to try the service. Are people interested in using Uber or similar apps as they become available?
Uber Users
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 6% of respondents said that they have already used Uber to either find or share transportation. Another 24% said they have heard of Uber, but never used it. And 70% said they’ve never heard of Uber.
Potential Users

Taxi Fares
Other than apps like Uber, people without personal vehicles mainly rely on public transportation and taxis to get around within a city. With the recent fare decrease, Uber is trying to provide some stiffer competition for cab companies. Currently, just 9% said they often take cabs. 31% said they sometimes take cabs. 42% said they’ve taken a cab once or twice. And 18% never have.
Just 5% of cab users said they think fares are very reasonable. 33% think cab fares are somewhat reasonable. 42% think cab fares are somewhat unreasonable. And 19% think they are very unreasonable.
