Many social media users connect their accounts to third party applications in order to share things like the music they listen to, the books they read, and similar types of media. But because of a US law, Netflix and similar video streaming services haven’t been able to offer this same type of sharing for videos on social media, but that may be changing in the near future. What do Americans think about the potential of video sharing? And how many would take advantage of this feature?
Social Media Use
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 43% of respondents said they use multiple social media sites. Another 42% said they use one social media site. And 16% said they don’t use any social media at all.
18% of social media users said they often share or post about books, music, and similar items on social media. Another 40% said that they sometimes share these types of items on social media. And 42% said they never share these items with their social networks.
Social Media Updates
However, only 7% said that they use many apps and services that automatically update to their Facebook or other social media accounts. 24% said they use one or two of these types of apps. Another 18% said they would consider using these types of automatic apps, though they currently do not. And 50% said they do not plan to use any apps that automatically update to social media.
Overall, 30% of respondents said that they currently subscribe to Netflix or a similar video streaming service. And of those subscribers, 21% said they would definitely be interested in posting their video streaming choices on social media. 37% of subscribers said they might consider connecting their video streaming service with social media. And 42% of video streaming subscribers said they would not be interested in posting their viewing choices to social media.
