Mobile video app Vine was recently updated to allow users to upload videos onto the platform. Previously, users could only record video directly onto the app, which could potentially impact quality. Vine has been around for a couple of years now. So just how much has Vine grown over the past year? And what do users think about the quality of the videos?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, just 3% of respondents said that they use Vine often. 7% said they use the app on occasion. Another 6% said they have used it in the past. 53% of respondents said they’ve never used it. And 31% said they’ve never heard of Vine. Both awareness and users have increased over the past year. In an April 2013 survey, just 6% had signed up for a Vine account at all. And 81% had never heard of Vine.
But Vine can reach more than just its own users. The videos are sometimes included on other social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. However, just 4% of people who don’t already use Vine said they often see the videos on other social media sites. 21% said they sometimes see Vine videos on other social media sites. 16% said they rarely see the videos on other sites. 54% said they never see Vine videos on other sites. And 6% don’t use social media at all.
Of the people who either use Vine or have seen the videos on other sites, 31% said they feel that the quality of the videos is high. 15% said they feel that Vine videos are usually fairly low quality. And 54% said they would consider the quality of Vine videos to be neutral or mixed.
But Vine isn’t the only mobile app that offers the ability to create short videos. And more respondents use other video apps, it seems. 14% of overall respondents said they use multiple different mobile video apps. 22% said they use one other mobile video app aside from Vine. And 64% said they don’t use any mobile video apps.
