World Series Survey: More Than Half Watched Championship Series

The 2012 World Series of baseball kicked off last week, and though the Giants kept the series to just four games when they won this weekend, many Americans tuned in to see the competition for baseball’s top honor. How many new viewers do these championship games attract? And how many tune in for other games regularly?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 57% of respondents said that they have watched at least one World Series game at some point through the years. 17% said that they watched the first two whole games of the World Series this year. 10% said that they had watched at least one game of the World Series this year. 25% said they have watched bits and pieces of the first two games this year. And 47% said that they hadn’t watched any of the first few World Series games this year.

And after the first two games, another 22% said they definitely planned to watch future games of the World Series this year. 23% said they might watch more World Series games this year. And 55% said they didn’t plan to watch any more games this year.

Favorite Teams

Of those who watched at least some of the World Series this year, 19% said that they had a favorite team competing. 20% said that though their favorite team did not play in this year’s World Series, they did have a favorite between the two teams that did compete. And 61% said that they didn’t have a favorite team in this year’s World Series.

Baseball Fans

In general, 9% of respondents said that they always watch baseball when it is on throughout the season, aside from the World Series. 11% said that they watch baseball often. 20% said they sometimes watch baseball during the regular season. 24% said they rarely watch baseball. And 37% of Americans said that they never watch baseball, not including the World Series. Of those who have watched at least some of the World Series this year, just 2% said they never watch baseball aside from the World Series.
