YouTube Gaming Survey: Gamers Likely to Check Out New Platform

YouTube recently announced the creation of a new site specifically for gaming content. YouTube Gaming will include a huge variety of video game related content and community features. Gamers have long turned to the online video platform for game trailers, game play videos and similar content. So how many gamers are interested in using the new platform?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 26% of respondents said they watch videos on YouTube every day. Another 29% do so a few times per week. 7% watch YouTube videos about once a week. 10% watch a few times per month. 6% watch about once per month. 16% said they rarely ever watch YouTube videos. And 8% never do.

On the other hand, 22% said they often play video games. 29% sometimes play video games. 19% rarely play. And 20% never do. However, just 9% of those respondents said they often watch gaming related video content online. 23% sometimes watch this type of content. 23% said they rarely ever watch videos about gaming topics. And 45% never do.

Of those who have watched gaming related videos, 15% said they always go to YouTube for that type of content. 22% said they get most of their gaming related video content from YouTube. 25% go to YouTube for gaming videos about half the time. 31% rarely watch these types of videos on YouTube. And just 7% never do.

In terms of YouTube’s new platform, 24% of overall respondents said they are likely to use YouTube Gaming. While that’s not a huge percentage of overall consumers, it’s a pretty decent amount of those who play video games and watch video game related content online.
