Zoos and Aquariums Survey: San Diego Zoo, Sea World Named Favorites

June is National Zoo and Aquarium Month. To celebrate, many families will visit their local animal filled attractions, or even travel to others around the country. But some feel that zoos and aquariums are not good enough homes for animals. How do people generally feel about zoos and aquariums? And what are their favorite ones to visit?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 33% of respondents said they are likely to visit at least one zoo and/or aquarium at some point this summer. But even more people have visited them at some point or at least heard enough to form an opinion. 70% of respondents said they have a positive opinion of zoos and aquariums. Just 11% have a negative opinion of them. And 20% were neutral.

Zoo Animals

There are so many different animals at these attractions for people to visit. Monkeys stand out as a favorite, with 53% of respondents selecting them as one of their must-visit zoo animals. 50% said they like seeing dolphins at zoos or aquariums. 46% prefer penguins. 40% like lions. 38% like giraffes. 35% like elephants. 29% like otters. 25% like bears. 22% like seeing sharks. And 14% named other favorite zoo and aquarium animals like zebras, birds and hippos.

Favorite Attractions

But as far as the actual attractions are concerned, people seem to enjoy a wide variety of zoos and aquariums around the country. The most popular zoo mentioned by respondents was the San Diego Zoo. And Sea World stuck out as one of the top aquarium type attractions.
