Popular mobile and Facebook game Candy Crush Saga has made its way into many homes around the world. The game has been around for just over a year but has already been downloaded and played billions of times, and has become a sort of addiction for many players. So just how popular is the game, and how profitable might it be?
Candy Crush
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 20% of overall respondents said that they play Candy Crush Saga often. 14% said they play the game sometimes. 15% said they have played it at least once in the past. And just over half of respondents, 52%, said they’ve never played Candy Crush Saga. Ask Your Target Market also recently ran a survey about Candy Crush Saga in collaboration with Time Magazine. That survey found that 67% of players have allowed their lives to be impacted by the game in some way, such as getting distracted from completing other household needs, playing during work hours, or arguing with others because of how often they play.
Mobile and Social Gaming
So how popular are other Facebook and mobile games when compared to Candy Crush? 14% of overall respondents said they play many other types of games on Facebook. 28% said they play just one or two. 43% said they don’t play any Facebook games. And 15% don’t use Facebook at all. 13% of respondents said they play many different games on their phone or mobile device. 32% play just one or two. 46% said they don’t play any mobile games. And 9% don’t own a phone or mobile device.
Paying for Games
So Candy Crush is a very popular game on all of the platforms where it is available. But while it is free up front, there are ways it can make money. In general, just 6% of respondents said they often pay to download games or buy extras within games. 12% said they sometimes pay for games. 22% said they rarely do. And 61% said they never play for games. Candy Crush players were 19% more likely to have paid for games at some point. And in AYTM’s previous survey, 25% of Candy Crush players said they have spent money specifically on Candy Crush Saga. Just 5% of those respondents spent less than $1.
