Facebook Mobile Survey: Facebook App Users More Likely to Use Foursquare, Yelp

Facebook recently announced changes to its mobile app, including some that might look familiar to users of other apps like Yelp and Foursqare. The location-based update can help users find local businesses and rate them or share them with friends. How many people use Facebook on their mobile devices and how many might be interested in these new features?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 18% of respondents said that they often use Facebook on their mobile devices. Another 17% said that they sometimes use Facebook mobile. 10% said they rarely do. 40% said they never use Facebook on mobile devices. And 15% said they don’t use Facebook at all.

Overall, 36% of Facebook users said that they connect with many brands on the site. Another 29% said they connect with one or two brands. And 35% said they don’t connect with any brands on Facebook. Of those who use Facebook on mobile devices, 44% said they connect with many businesses or brands, and 32% said they connect with at least one brand on Facebook.

Foursquare Features

Currently, just 5% of respondents said that they often used location-based apps such as Foursquare. Another 12% said they use these apps sometimes. 10% said they rarely use location-based apps. And 74% said they never use them. Of those who use the mobile version of Facebook, 11% said they often use Foursquare or similar apps, and 26% said they sometimes use them.

Yelp Features

8% of respondents said that they often use Yelp or similar sites to read or write reviews on local businesses. Another 18% said they sometimes use these types of sites or apps. 15% said they rarely use them. And 60% said they have never used sites like Yelp to find or share information about local businesses. Of those who use Facebook on their mobile devices, 12% said they often use Yelp or similar services, and 28% said they sometimes do.
