Popular photo sharing app Instagram has announced that it will release a version of its app for Android phone customers. Many Android users are excited for the new addition, but many Americans in general still don’t use photo sharing apps, or even share photos taken with their phones. How many Americans share their photos online, and how many care about photos shared by others?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 31% of respondents said they don’t ever share personal photos online, no matter what venue. 44% said they do share photos, but not often. 22% said they share photos fairly often, and 3% said they share photos online every day. Women were more likely than men to share photos in general, but less likely to post new photos daily. Respondents younger than 35 were also more likely to share photos, and to do so more often.
Of those respondents who share photos online, 22% said that most of the photos they share are taken with their cell phones. 39% said that they sometimes share cell phone photos, and 40% said they never share cell phone photos. Respondents younger than 35 were more likely to do so. And men were slightly more likely than women to share cell phone photos online. Of those who share cell phone photos, 28% said they use a photo-sharing app such as Instagram. Men were again more likely than women to share photos using a mobile app. And respondents under 35% were more likely to use photo-sharing apps as well.

Regardless of whether or how they share photos online, 64% of respondents said that they do enjoy when others share photos online. Just 10% don’t, and the remaining 27% had no opinion.
