Netflix has released several original shows this year that are only available on the streaming service. Though it’s still a fairly new concept, some of these shows have received a lot of attention and viewers. And now, some of those shows have even received Emmy nominations. How many have watched Netflix originals? And how many might be interested in the future?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 8% of respondents said they currently subscribe to multiple movie or TV streaming services. 32% subscribe to one. And 60% don’t subscribe to any. In a February 2013 survey, when one of Netflix’s original shows House of Cards was released, 39% of respondents said they subscribed to at least one streaming service.
70% of video streaming subscribers currently use Netflix. 21% subscribe to Hulu Plus. 20% subscribe to Amazon Prime. And 9% subscribe to other services such as Blockbuster and Redbox Instant.
25% of streaming customers said they have watched multiple shows that were created specifically for streaming services, such as Netflix’s House of Cards. 22% said they’ve watched one original series created for a streaming service. And 52% of streaming customers said they’ve never watched such original programming.
Of those who haven’t watched Netflix originals or similar programming, 21% said they would definitely be interested in doing so. 48% said they would probably consider watching original programming from their streaming service. 24% said they would probably not be interested. And 7% said they are definitely not interested.
Of those who don’t currently subscribe to a video streaming service, 8% said that they would definitely consider subscribing to a streaming service if a show they wanted to watch was exclusively available there. 29% said they would probably subscribe. 37% said they would probably not subscribe. And 26% said they would definitely not subscribe to a video streaming service to see its original programming.
