Voice recognition technology is making its mark on a number of different products, but perhaps none more than smartphones. The vast majority of smartphones now come with some kind of voice recognition software. And according to research from Parks Associates, about half of those consumers use the technology regularly. So how important is voice recognition technology to those consumers? And how might it impact future buyers? We asked 1,000 respondents about their thoughts on smartphone voice controls and similar features.
Smartphone Voice Controls
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest online survey, 45% of respondents said that they currently own multiple products that have voice control features. And 38% own one such product. More specifically, 96% of those who own such products said that they own smartphones with voice control features, making it the most popular type of product for consumers in this category. Apple, Samsung, Motorola, LG and Android were the most popular brands in this category.
Of those who own smartphones with voice control features, 31% said that they use those features daily. 29% use them a few times a week. 12% use voice control features a few times a month. 21% use them less than once a month. And just 7% of those who own smartphones with voice control features said they’ve never used them.
In addition, 63% of smartphone owners said they’ve been at least somewhat satisfied with their voice control features. 11% have been unsatisfied. And 25% were neutral or undecided.
Looking forward, 53% of respondents said that they would be at least somewhat likely to purchase products with voice control features within the next two years. And of those consumers, 75% said they’re likely to purchase smartphones from brands like Samsung, Apple and LG.
According to Personality Radar, those who own smartphones with voice control features are educated and financially stable consumers who also enjoy fun hobbies like gaming and travel. And those who are likely to buy voice controlled products in the future are affluent, tech savvy consumers who value quality but also pay attention to growing trends.
The market for smartphones with voice control features is likely to continue growing. But the market is actually already fairly saturated. And the same brands are likely to continue being popular going forward. So essentially, if other tech brands want to stand out in terms of voice control features, they need to focus on user satisfaction. While very few consumers are dissatisfied with their smartphone voice controls, there are a fair amount who don’t seem to be wowed by them. So adding unique new features or making controls that are glitch-free could be one way to keep and potentially attract more consumers.
