Voice recognition technology has become much more prevalent in recent years, from smartphone features like Siri to hands free systems in newer vehicles. How many consumers use this type of technology often? And how satisfied are they with the usefulness of such features?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 7% of respondents said they often use voice recognition technology. 16% said they sometimes use it. 17% said they rarely use it. And 60% said they’ve never used voice recognition technology. In a May 2012 survey, 63% of respondents said they had never used voice recognition technology, and 5% used it often.
Though use of the technology is increasing slowly, you can’t deny the growing availability of products that come with voice recognition features. 44% of overall respondents said they currently own a smartphone that has voice recognition features. 8% own a vehicle with voice recognition features. And another 8% own other products that have voice recognition features, including tablets and laptops. 50% of respondents said they don’t own any products that have voice recognition features.
Overall, 22% of those who have used voice recognition technology said they are very satisfied with it. 52% said they have been somewhat satisfied with voice recognition technology. 22% said they are somewhat unsatisfied. And just 3% have been very unsatisfied with it. In the May 2012 survey, 58% of users were very or somewhat satisfied with how well the technology worked.
Overall, 35% of respondents said they would definitely like to see more products with voice recognition features become available over the next few years. 25% said they would not like to see more of these products available in the next few years. And 40% said they are undecided. Those who have used voice recognition technology were 18% more likely to want to see it integrated into more products, and 7% less likely to not want it integrated into more products.
