In August, many Americans will celebrate National Golf Month by heading out to their favorite local courses. Golf has long been one of the country’s most popular summertime activities. And as such, it has attracted a lot of fans who both enjoy playing and watching golf. Some even travel to popular courses around the world to play or attend major events. So just how many people are fans of the game? And what are their favorite ways to celebrate National Golf Month?
Golf Fans
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 17% of respondents said they enjoy playing golf. 19% said they enjoy watching golf on TV. 12% enjoy watching golf at live tournaments or events. And it seems that many more respondents, who might not like the extreme competition or cost sometimes involved in the actual game, still enjoy a lighter version. 44% of respondents said they enjoy playing miniature golf, also known as mini golf or putt putt.
Game Habits
But more specifically, 60% of respondents said they’ve never actually gone golfing. 21% rarely golf. 11% go once or twice a year. 7% go once or twice a month. And just 2% said they go golfing at least once a week.But those who are into playing golf are likely to spend some serious money on the game. Of the 161 golfers we surveyed, 5% said they often travel to play at different courses. 22% sometimes travel to do so. 10% have done so at least once. And 63% have never traveled specifically to play golf. Respondents’ favorite courses around the country include Pebble Beach in California, the Arnold Palmer Course in Florida and Dearborn Hills Golf Course in Michigan.
Gear Brands
There’s also sometimes an investment involved in terms of equipment. Of the 161 golfers we surveyed, 20% said they’ve purchased game related apparel within the past year. 16% have bought shoes. 15% have bought a new bag. 13% have bought small items like balls or tees. 12% have bought electronic items. 11% have bought new clubs. And 6% have purchased a membership at a course or golf club.When it comes to brands, there are plenty of sporting goods companies that provide different types of gear.
