Today is National Chocolate Cake Day, a day that celebrates one of America’s favorite desserts. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, special occasion, or just want to enjoy something a little sweet and chocolaty after a long day, chocolate cake is a very popular option. So how many people enjoy chocolate cake regularly? And how does it stack up against other popular cake flavors?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 84% of respondents said that they have a positive opinion of chocolate cake. Just 6% said they don’t really like it. And 11% are neutral about it. The top brands for chocolate cake, according to respondents, are Duncan Hines and Betty Crocker. Other brands mentioned include Pillsbury, Pepperidge Farm, Sara Lee and various store brands. And plenty of respondents also said that they just like to make chocolate cake from scratch.
Of course, chocolate isn’t the only popular cake flavor around. But it was chosen as the most popular. 58% of respondents named chocolate as their favorite cake flavor of the options listed. Vanilla came in second place, followed by strawberry, red velvet and raspberry. Lemon and funfetti were sixth and seventh on the list, in terms of popularity.
In fact, 5% of respondents like chocolate cake so much that they said that’s the only type of cake they ever eat. 27% said they eat chocolate cake most of the time. 39% eat it about half the time. 21% said they choose other flavors besides chocolate most of the time. Just 4% said that they only ever choose other cake flavors. And 5% said they don’t ever eat cake at all.
