Online shopping has become a common practice in recent years. But some shoppers still avoid it at times due to the cost of shipping items to their homes. However, free shipping promotions have cut down on some of those concerns. There’s even a free shipping day, which happens to be today, that encourages online retailers to offer free shipping to their customers. So how many appreciate getting free shipping on their online orders? And how many are more likely to shop with retailers that offer it?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 20% of respondents said they shop online at least once a week. 35% do so at least once a month. 28% said they shop online a few times per year. 13% shop online just once per year or less. And 6% said they don’t ever shop online.
14% of online shoppers said they always receive free shipping with their purchases. 47% do so most of the time. 20% get it about half the time. 14% rarely ever receive free shipping with their online purchases. 2% never do. And 3% are unsure.
It’s pretty common for online stores to offer free shipping with large purchases or orders that exceed a certain amount of money. And that seems to be a pretty good tactic because 46% of respondents said they would be at least somewhat likely to pay a bit more for their overall order if it comes with free shipping. 28% said they would be unlikely to do so. And 25% were neutral or undecided.
In general, 70% of respondents agreed that they have a higher opinion of brands that offer free shipping. 84% are more likely to shop with brands that offer free shipping. And 75% said they are more likely to shop if there’s a free shipping promotion, rather than other types of discounts or promotions.
Overall, Amazon was named as the top online retailer that regularly offers free shipping. eBay, Walmart, Target, Overstock, Newegg and Zappos were also mentioned as favorites.
