Several years ago, many tech experts thought that 3D TV would be the next big thing. But so far, it hasn’t caught on much with the American public. Are people interested in owning 3D TVs for their homes? Or is the technology just not relevant to their interests?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, just 4% of respondents said they currently own a 3D TV. 17% said that they are definitely interested in owning one. And 21% said they are somewhat interested in owning a 3D TV. 59% said they are not interested in owning a 3D TV at all.

And 8% said they don’t think the 3D added anything at all to the viewing experience.

Future Interest

Just because over half of Americans aren’t interested in 3D TVs themselves, it doesn’t mean they don’t necessarily mean the technology won’t catch on with other consumers. 14% said they definitely think that 3D TV will catch on in American homes within the next 5 years. 40% said they think 3D TV will probably catch on in the next 5 years. 34% said they think 3D TV probably won’t catch on. And 13% said it definitely won’t catch on.
