Blogging is an activity that has been around for many years, though it has evolved. There are many different types of blogs and the number of individual blogs grows each day. How many people blog and what is their motivation? And who chooses to read these blogs?

Blog vs. Read

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, only 24.3% of respondents said they blog, while 75.8% said they do not. However, 21.5% read blogs regularly and another 50% read them sometimes, and only 28.5% never read blogs.

Reasons Behind Blogging

For those who chose to write a blog, most respondents, 73.2%, said they do it simply to write about topics they enjoy. 41.2% do it to keep family and friends updated on their lives, 37.1% do it to keep a personal account of daily life, 35.1% do it as a career or to make money, 32% do it to practice or improve their writing skills, and 17.5% use blogging as a portfolio to help them obtain jobs or other projects.

Reasons Behind Reading

Of those who read blogs, most respondents, 60.5%, said they read them for enjoyment. 52.8% said they read to learn about specific topics related to their industry or hobby, 46.5% do it to read opinions in a relatable voice, 42.7% do it to get news, and 40.9% do it to connect with people who have similar interests.Blogging is a platform unlike any other, because it allows anyone to participate in the conversation. Large businesses have blogs and individuals have blogs. The number of topics and styles is never-ending. Will more and more people continue to write and read blogs? And how will the practice of blogging change next?Photo Credit: I'm blogging this from FlickrWhat do you want to know?
