Cupcake Survey: Chocolate and Vanilla Remain Favorite Flavors

Today is National Cupcake Day in Canada. Cupcakes have been a favorite dessert of many for years, but they seem to be gaining popularity recently. There are also plenty of different varieties that dessert lovers can choose from. So what are the most popular cupcake flavors? And how do they stack up against other desserts?

Opinions and Habits

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 75% of respondents said they have a positive opinion of cupcakes. Just 7% said they dislike cupcakes. And 17% said they’re pretty neutral about them.Just 5% said they eat cupcakes at least once per week. 14% eat them a few times per month. 16% eat them about once per month. 35% said they eat cupcakes a few times per year. 7% just eat them about once per year. 20% said they rarely eat cupcakes. And just 4% never do.

Different Flavors

Chocolate seems to be the most popular cupcake flavor; 60% named it as a favorite. 39% said they enjoy vanilla. 30% prefer strawberry. 27% enjoy red velvet. 20% like lemon flavored cupcakes. 12% prefer peanut butter. And 4% named other favorite flavors, such as pumpkin, blueberry or carrot cake.

Dessert Preferences

So where do cupcakes stand when compared to other desserts? Respondents seem to prefer ice cream and cake more than any other common dessert foods. 34% named ice cream as their favorite dessert, and 19% named cake as their favorite. Just 14% named cupcakes as their favorite dessert.
