Doughnuts Survey: Glazed, Chocolate are Americans' Favorite Doughnut Flavors

Today is National Doughnut Day! Doughnuts have long been considered a favorite dessert and breakfast food for people around the world. And this is the one day a year when even healthy eaters have a good excuse to enjoy some of their favorite sweet snacks. How many plan to eat doughnuts today? And what are their favorite flavors and places to buy them?

Doughnut Eaters

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 69% of respondents said they have a positive opinion of doughnuts. Just 13% don’t like them. And 19% said they’re pretty neutral about them. But even though most people enjoy doughnuts, 37% said they rarely ever eat them. 23% eat them just about once per month. 19% eat doughnuts a few times per month. 10% eat them about once per week. 5% eat them a few times per week. 1% said they eat doughnuts pretty much every day. And just 5% never eat doughnuts.

Favorite Doughnuts

With so many different types of doughnuts to choose from, what are the flavors that top respondents’ lists of favorites? 51% named glazed doughnuts as one of their favorites. 40% prefer chocolate. 34% like custard filled doughnuts. 25% like jelly filled ones. 19% like frosted with sprinkles. 15% just like plain doughnuts. And 10% named other favorites such as blueberry, maple and lemon. There are also plenty of different places where people can go to buy their favorite types of doughnuts. Some of the favorite doughnut establishments named by respondents include Dunkin Donuts, Krispy Kreme, Tim Horton’s and a variety of local bakeries.

Doughnut Day isn’t necessarily a major US holiday, but it’s still a good excuse for doughnut fans to go out and buy some of their favorite desserts. In fact, 43% of respondents said they are likely to eat some doughnuts in celebration of National Doughnut Day today.
