Today is National Grilled Cheese Day. Grilled cheese sandwiches are such a classic choice for people of all ages. And there are basically endless ways for people to enjoy this classic food item, from choosing different types of cheese and bread to adding other foods like tomatoes or bacon. So how many people enjoy grilled cheese sandwiches regularly? And what are their favorite ways to enjoy them?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 77% of respondents said that they have a positive opinion of grilled cheese sandwiches. Just 5% said they don’t like them. And 18% were neutral or had no opinion. Overall, 9% of respondents said that they eat grilled cheeses at least once per week. 24% eat them a few times per month. 14% eat them about once a month. 25% said they eat grilled cheese sandwiches a few times per year. 18% eat them once a year or less. 15% said they rarely ever eat grilled cheese sandwiches. And 10% never eat them.
Of course, the cheese is the most important part of the grilled cheese for a lot of people. And there are so many different types of cheese for people to choose from. The most popular types of cheese among respondents were American and Cheddar. 60% said that they like American cheese and 59% said they prefer cheddar. Mozzarella, Swiss and Provolone were also popular choices. And the top cheese brands for respondents who like grilled cheese sandwiches include Kraft, Sargento and Velveeta.The most popular type of bread for grilled cheese sandwiches is regular old white bread. 57% said they like their grille cheeses made with white bread. 44% prefer wheat bread. 24% like whole grain bread. And others selected other types of bread such as French, Italian and Rye. The most popular brands for bread include Wonder Bread, Sara Lee and Pepperidge Farm.
There are also several different food items that people can choose to add onto their grilled cheese sandwiches to make them a little more interesting. Bacon and ham were the most popular choices among respondents. 38% said they like ham on their grilled cheese sandwiches. And another 38% like to add bacon. 30% like adding a slice of tomato to their sandwiches. 12% like avocado. And 8% like to add other things like turkey, onion or pickle. 25% said they don’t ever add anything extra to their grilled cheeses.
