Mobile Games Survey: Gamers Hoping For Mobile Versions of Old Favorites

As the smartphone market has grown, so has the prominence of mobile games. There are already plenty of options for people who want to play games on their smartphones, tablets or similar mobile devices. But two major players in the gaming industry, Nintendo and Sony, are reportedly working on releasing even more options for those who might be interested in playing mobile versions of their favorite video games. So how many currently play mobile games? And how many might be interested in these new offerings?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 24% of respondents said that they play games on their smartphones or tablets every day. 11% do so at least once per week. 20% play mobile games about once per month or less. 6% said they have played mobile games in the past, but don’t anymore. And 39% have never played them. Of course, there are already many different mobile games for people to choose from. Candy Crush stands out as the most popular mobile game among respondents. Angry Birds, Words with Friends, Solitaire, Bejeweled, Tetris and Trivia Crack were also named as favorites.

Game Purchases

Some mobile games are completely free for those who want to play, while others require you to purchase the game or let you make purchases within the game or app to improve the experience. Overall, 10% said they always pay for the games they play on mobile devices. 11% pay most of the time. 10% do so about half the time. 22% rarely do. And 46% said they’ve never paid for mobile games, either by purchasing the actual games or making in-game purchases.Of those who have paid for games, 47% said they would rather just buy the games over making in-game purchases. 19% said they prefer making in-game purchases. And 34% have no preference. Overall, most gamers said they spend between $0 and $10 on mobile games per month.

Video Games

While mobile games are certainly gaining popularity, regular video games still have plenty of users. 17% of overall respondents said they play games on a dedicated gaming console or PC every day. 13% play them at least once a week. 25% play them about once a month or less. 11% have played video games in the past, but don’t anymore. And 35% said they never play regular video games. 38% of those gamers said they play video games on an Xbox gaming console. 35% use PlayStation. 29% use a Nintendo console. And 29% use a PC or other type of gaming console.In general, about 40% of respondents said they would be likely to play mobile games from their favorite traditional gaming consoles.
