New Year's Eve Survey: More Than Half Likely to Celebrate

Tomorrow, people around the country will ring in the new year in a variety of different ways. Though many people associate New Year’s Eve with watching the ball drop in NYC or large, formal gatherings, there are plenty of different ways to celebrate. So how many people plan to celebrate the new year in style? And what are some of their favorite traditions?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 52% of respondents said they are likely to watch the ball drop on New Year’s Eve this year. 38% said they are likely to watch other New Year’s Eve specials on TV. 26% said they will likely go out to a restaurant or bar to celebrate. 25% plan to attend a party or gathering. 12% plan to host a party or gathering. 14% said they are likely to go to an larger organized or public event of some kind. And 15% plan to travel for the holiday.

New Year Purchases

In general, just 38% of overall respondents said that they are likely to make any kind of purchases on or for their New Year’s Eve celebrations. Walmart and various other grocery stores were at the top of the list of places where people plan to buy items for New Year’s Eve. Other stores mentioned include Target, Amazon, Kroger, Costco, Sam’s Club and local liquor stores.

New Year Traditions

Overall, 50% of respondents said that they usually celebrate New Year’s Eve in some way or another. And 53% of respondents said that they enjoy celebrating New Year’s Eve when they get the opportunity to do so.
