Today is Newspaper Carrier Day. And even though circulation of traditional newspapers is lower than it has been in previous years, some people still enjoy getting newspapers delivered to their home daily or on a regular basis. So how many consumers still take advantage of newspaper delivery options? And what methods do others use to get their news?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, just 6% of respondents said they still get multiple newspapers delivered to their home. 27% get one newspaper regularly delivered to their home. And 67% don’t get any newspapers delivered. The most popular newspapers mentioned by respondents who do take advantage of delivery options include the Chicago Tribune, New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Tampa Tribune, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Of those who do not currently get any newspapers delivered to their homes, 11% said that they have subscribed to multiple newspapers for home delivery in the past. Another 42% said they’ve had one newspaper delivery service in past years. And 47% said they’ve actually never subscribed to any newspaper delivery services.
Of course, getting newspapers delivered to your home is not the only way to get your daily dose of news. 4% of respondents said they purchase newspapers from news stands, stores or kiosks daily. 5% do so fairly often. 17% said they sometimes purchase individual newspapers. 31% do so on occasion. And 44% of overall respondents said they never go out of their way to buy physical newspapers.On the other hand, 10% of respondents said they read newspapers online every day. 12% do so fairly often. 19% read newspapers online sometimes. 29% do so on occasion. And 30% never do. Respondents’ favorite newspapers to read online include USA Today, Wall Street Journal, New York Post, Washington Post and Chicago Sun Times.
