Target recently announced an extension of its price matching program, which was previously only available during the holiday shopping season. Price matching programs are intended to bring more shoppers into stores who might otherwise be likely to go online to find deals. How many consumers have taken advantage of price matching offers? And how many compare prices in stores and online to find the best deals?
Online Shopping
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 39% of respondents said that they usually find better deals online than they do in stores. And just 18% said they usually find better deals when shopping in stores. 36% said they find the deals both in stores and online to be pretty equal. Another 5% said they only shop in stores. And 3% said they only shop online.
Price Matching
19% of consumers said they have taken advantage of price matching deals many times. Another 36% said they have taken advantage of price matching deals just once or twice. And 46% of consumers said they have never taken advantage of a price matching deal.34% of respondents said they would definitely be more likely to shop in stores more often if they offered price matching deals. 49% said they would probably shop in stores more if they offered price matching. 13% said they would probably not shop in stores more if they offered price matching. And just 4% said they would definitely not shop in stores more.
Comparing Prices
In general, 21% of consumers said that they always compare prices before making a purchase. 43% said they compare prices most of the time. 27% said they compare prices about half the time. 7% said they rarely compare prices.
