QR Codes Survey: Many Undecided About Using Barcodes

Quick Response Codes, or QR codes, have become more and more widely used by consumers in recent years. The matrix style barcode allows users to scan with their smartphone or mobile device and receive more information about a product or company. How many consumers have taken advantage of this feature, and how many can see themselves doing so in the future?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 13% of respondents said they have used QR codes. 7% said they know how to use them, but never have before. 4% said they know what QR codes look like, but they don’t know how to use them. 9% said they know the basic idea behind them. 10% said they have heard of QR codes, but don’t really know what they are. And 58% said they have never even heard of QR codes.

Code Potential

22% of those who have not used QR codes said they definitely plan to use them in the future. 59% said they can possibly see themselves using them in the future. And 19% said they definitely don’t plan to use QR codes.36% of those respondents said they would be more likely to use QR codes if they offered coupons or similar benefits. 51% said they might be more likely to use them. And 13% said that benefits would make no difference in their decision.

Smartphone Use

35% of respondents currently own a smartphone. Smartphone users were more likely to say they will potentially use QR codes in the future. Of those who don’t have smartphones, 14% said they definitely plan to purchase one in the near future. 26% said they will probably own a smartphone one day. 34% said it’s possible.
