Scrabble Survey: Monopoly, Scrabble Named America's Favorite Board Games

Scrabble is a classic board game that mixes vocabulary and problem solving and even some math. It has been a favorite of many Americans for years, so much so that today has even been designated as Scrabble Day. So how many people enjoy playing Scrabble on a regular basis? And how does it stack up against other games?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 9% of respondents said they play board games at least once per week. 17% play board games at least once per month. 24% play them at least once per year. 32% said they rarely ever play board games. And 18% never play them.When it comes to choosing a favorite board game, Scrabble came in second only to Monopoly. 38% chose Monopoly as their favorite board game. And 28% chose Scrabble as their favorite board game. Clue and Risk were also favorites. And Battleship, Trivial Pursuit and Apples to Apples had fewer first place votes.

More specifically, 69% of respondents said they have a positive opinion of Scrabble. Just 10% have a negative opinion of Scrabble. And 22% are neutral about it. Those who enjoy Scrabble were likely to choose Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit and Yahtzee as their other favorite games.

Mobile Games

Scrabble fans who also own smartphones have been pleased to find mobile options for their favorite games. There’s Words With Friends, an official mobile version of Scrabble and plenty of other mobile versions of other classic board games. In general, 47% of respondents have played some of those mobile board games.Words With Friends was the standout favorite; 47% of mobile gamers named Words With Friends as a favorite mobile game. 26% have played mobile Scrabble. 23% have played mobile Yahtzee. 20% have played mobile Jenga. Another 20% have played mobile Boggle. 17% have played mobile Battleship. 14% have played Pictureka.
