YouTube Channels Survey: Most Find Videos Through YouTube Search

This week, YouTube announced that it is expanding its original content channels, which cover a variety of different topics and often collaborate with big names, brands and celebrities. Many Americans watch online videos, but not all of them actually subscribe to YouTube channels. How many viewers actually have favorite channels or users that they watch often? And how else do people find online videos to watch?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 28% of respondents said they watch videos online every day. 23% said they watch online videos a few times per week. 10% said they watch about once a week. Another 10% said they watch online videos a few times per month. 21% said they rarely watch online videos. And just 9% said they never watch videos online. Males were 6% more likely to watch online videos daily. And respondents under 35 were 12% more likely to watch online videos daily.

Driving Traffic

61% of those who watch videos online said that they find videos to watch through the search function on YouTube or similar video sites. 30% said they often find videos to watch through Google or other general search engines. 30% said they find videos to watch through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. 20% said they often find videos to watch by following specific users or channels on YouTube. And 12% said they find videos in other ways, such as friends and family who forward them via email.

19% of those who watch videos online said they have many favorite channels, personalities, or web series that they watch on a regular basis. 33% said they have just one or two favorite series or users that they watch regularly on YouTube or similar sites. And 49% said they don’t have any favorite YouTube channels or personalities.More specifically, 22% said they subscribe to several channels on YouTube. 25% said they just subscribe to one or two YouTube Channels. And 53% said they don’t subscribe to any channels or users on YouTube. 45% of those who watch online videos every day said they subscribe to multiple channels.
