March 25 is known as Waffle Day in some parts of the world. That means that plenty of people will be enjoying their own today. But with so many other popular breakfast foods to choose from, waffles can sometimes take a backseat. So how many people enjoy them on a regular basis? And how do they stack up against other breakfast foods?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 75% of respondents said they have a positive opinion of waffles. Just 7% said they have a negative opinion of waffles. And 18% are neutral about them.
But even though people tend to like waffles, 43% said they rarely ever eat them. And another 6% never do. Just 2% of respondents said they eat waffles pretty much every day. 7% eat them a few times per week. Another 7% eat them about once per week. 19% said they eat them a few times per month. And 16% eat them about once per month.
Of those who eat them at least once per month, 51% said they eat frozen waffles most often. 35% eat homemade waffles regularly. 29% eat waffles from restaurants. And 17% go all out with Belgian waffles.
But if people had more time and resources, it seems they might go in a different direction. 46% said their favorite waffles are homemade ones. 34% prefer restaurant versions. 28% like Belgian waffles the most. And 25% are happy with frozen waffles.
So where do waffles stack up against other breakfast foods? Just 9% ranked waffles as their favorite breakfast food. Eggs were overwhelmingly chosen as a favorite, with 39% putting them first on their list, followed by bacon, pancakes and French toast. Waffles fell toward the bottom of the list for most people, but still had more first place votes than sausage and hash browns.
