Bacon Survey: Consumption Decreasing in Recent Years

Today is Bacon day, a holiday that celebrates one of America’s favorite food items. It seems that bacon has become even more popular, if not more of a novelty, over the past couple of years. But have people’s eating habits changed at all? And what do people generally think about the food item?

Bacon Consumption

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 6% of respondents said they eat bacon every day. 22% said they eat it at least once per week. 24% said they eat bacon a few times per month. 11% eat it about once per month. 16% eat it a few times per year. 12% said they rarely eat bacon. And 10% never eat it.Though most people at least eat bacon on occasion, it doesn’t seem that consumption is actually increasing at all. In fact, 29% said they eat bacon less often than they did five years ago. And just 15% said they eat it more often than they did five years ago. 56% eat about the same amount of it as they used to.

Bacon Opinions

So what do people actually think of bacon? In general, 69% of respondents said they have a positive opinion of bacon. Just 13% have a negative opinion of it. And 18% were neutral.Since bacon is often consumed within other dishes, its inclusion in other food items might impact people’s opinions. However, 40% said that they would actually be more likely to purchase a dish if it has bacon in it. Just 19% said they would be less likely to purchase a dish with bacon in it. And 41% were neutral.

Health Food

Though people seem to like bacon, it isn’t exactly the healthiest food item. And 74% of respondents said they care about eating healthy food. However, just 34% said they would rather eat healthy food than food they enjoy.
