Among the many technological advances impacting local businesses is Bluetooth beacon technology. Bluetooth beacons give local stores and other businesses the ability to know when customers with Bluetooth activated phones visit their locations. They can even use the technology to offer visiting customers special promotions, discounts or shopping tips. So how do customers feel about the use of Bluetooth beacons by local businesses?
Bluetooth Devices
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 19% of respondents said they currently have Bluetooth in their primary mobile device turned on. 56% have it turned off. 5% were unsure. And 21% said they don’t currently have a phone with Bluetooth capabilities. Of those who at least have the ability to use Bluetooth in their phones, 48% said their primary mobile phone is an Android device. 23% have an iOS phone. 9% have a Windows phone. And 2% have other types of phones such as Blackberry.
Granting Permission
When it comes to using that technology at local businesses, 18% of respondents said they would grant permission for local stores and other businesses to use Bluetooth to track when they are at their location. 33% said they would grant permission only if they were given something, like a discount or free gift, in return. 33% said they would decline permission. And 16% were unsure.
Consumer Opinions
Overall, 54% of respondents said they would have a positive opinion about an app for one of their favorite stores that could send them special offers as soon as they step in the door. Just 17% said they would have a negative opinion about such an app. And 28% were neutral or unsure.
