Chocolate Survey: Candy Brands Considered Favorites

July 7 is known as Chocolate Day, a holiday that celebrates that most popular of dessert ingredients. Chocolate can be used in so many different food items, from candy to brownies and even to hot beverages. So what are some of people’s favorite ways to enjoy chocolate? And what are their favorite food companies that make such products?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 84% of respondents said they generally enjoy chocolate. Though the food isn’t especially known for its health properties, there are some health related benefits to certain types. And since some Americans are becoming more health conscious, that could have some impact on its consumption. Overall, 61% of respondents think that chocolate can be considered healthy.

Eating Habits

In general, 13% of respondents said they eat chocolate pretty much every day. 33% eat it a few times per week. 13% eat it about once per week. 21% usually enjoy it a few times per month. 10% have it just about once per month. 9% said they rarely ever eat chocolate. And just 2% never do.

Types and Brands

There are so many different ways for people to enjoy chocolate. Candy tops most respondents’ lists; 74% named candy as one of their favorite ways to enjoy chocolate. 53% enjoy brownies. 51% like chocolate in their cookies. 46% prefer cake. 34% like hot chocolate or other flavored beverages. 28% like chocolate covered fruit. And 5% named other favorites such as ice cream and fudge. More specifically, respondents named Hershey’s, Nestle, Godiva and Dove as their favorite chocolate brands. There were also some lesser-known brands on the list, including Guittard, Max Brenner and Ritter Sport.
