Cinco de Mayo Survey: At-Home Celebrations Most Popular

Today is Cinco de Mayo, a holiday that celebrates the Mexican Army’s victory at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. More recently, it’s become a popular day of celebration where people embrace various aspects of Mexican culture. Some Mexican restaurants, bars and other businesses hold events or promotions in celebration of the holiday. So how many are likely to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in some way this year?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 4% of respondents said that they celebrate Cinco de Mayo every year. 14% have done so multiple times in the past. And 13% said they’ve celebrated it at least once. This year, 16% of respondents said they are at least somewhat likely to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in some way.

Popular Celebrations

Of those who are likely to celebrate, 42% said that their plans involve simply making food at home. 38% said they plan on going out to eat. 23% are attending a parade or similar organized event. 22% plan to go out to a bar. 17% are likely to either host or attend a party. And 3% are undecided.

Favorite Foods

For those who are likely to go out to restaurants for Cinco de Mayo, it’s likely that they’ll head to some of their favorite eateries that serve Mexican food. Taco bell was the number one brand mentioned by respondents.
