December 21 is known as Crossword Puzzle Day, a day created to celebrate the popular word puzzles that have stood the test of time. From newspapers and books to online and mobile versions, there are plenty of ways for people to access their favorite crossword puzzles. So how many enjoy completing them? And what are their favorite places to find them?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 13% of respondents said that they regularly do crossword puzzles. 33% do them sometimes. 20% said they have done so many times in the past. And 16% have at least once. The remaining 18% said they’ve never done crossword puzzles at all.
Of those who have ever done crossword puzzles, 61% agreed that they can be at least somewhat enjoyable. 19% do not find them to be enjoyable. And 20% were neutral about them. Unsurprisingly, those who find crossword puzzles to be enjoyable were more likely to say that they complete them regularly. Though some may choose to do them for other reasons, such as to improve brain function and concentration.
Newspapers are still the most popular place for people to find crossword puzzles; 58% of those who do crossword puzzles at least sometimes said they usually find them in newspapers. 32% find them in magazines. Another 32% find them online. 31% find them in books. And 10% get them from other sources, such as mobile apps. More specifically, the most popular sources for crossword puzzles, according to respondents, were Time Magazine, USA Today, the New York Times, NY Post, and various other local newspapers and Sudoku/puzzle books.
