Today is International Dance Day, a holiday that celebrates dancing in its various forms, from artistic expression to those intended for exercise. Dancing has been a huge part of life for many people in a variety of different societies. So what are the general feelings toward dancing? And what are the most prominent types currently?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 47% of respondents said they generally enjoy dancing. However, just 21% said they dance fairly regularly. And just 12% have been involved in official dance groups or performances during their adult years. But 22% said they were involved in official dance groups or performances as kids. And 47% said they enjoy watching people dance, either in live performances or in TV and movies.
Dancing can have various benefits to a wide variety of people. And it seems that even though many adults don’t dance very often, they still recognize the potential benefits. Overall, 83% of respondents agree that dancing can be good exercise. 79% also agree that dancing can be an artistic expression for people. And in general, 82% think that dancing can be a positive activity for young kids to participate in.
While dancing comes in many forms, one that seems to have increased in popularity in recent years is danced-based exercise such as Zumba. 12% of respondents said they have tried these dance based exercise programs many times. And 20% said they have tried dance based exercise programs like Zumba once or twice. Of those who have tried it, 79% said they have a positive opinion of dance-based exercise.
