Facebook recently started testing a new feature that it hopes will satisfy some of the users who have been calling for the platform to add a “dislike” button. Facebook reactions will allow users to specify a variety of different emotions through emoticons in reaction to their friends’ posts. Do Facebook users like this idea better than a basic dislike option? Or are some of the same concerns still there?

Facebook Reactions

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 60% of Facebook users think that the new reactions feature generally seems like a good idea. And it could actually lead to a change in the way people use the platform as well, since 53% of Facebook users said they will likely use the reactions feature regularly whenever it is widely released.

Dislike Button

In a September 2015 survey, 68% of Facebook users said they supported the idea of Facebook adding some kind of dislike option for them to express empathy and similar emotions on other users’ posts. However, now that Facebook has unveiled this new version, 59% say they like the idea of Facebook reactions better than just adding a dislike button.

Negative Impact

Still, some of the same concerns remain. 63% of Facebook users said they still think a feature like reactions could lead to more bullying or arguments on the platform. However, 35% think that the reactions feature will be less likely to lead to bullying or arguments than just a dislike button would.
