After much anticipation, Google has finally announced its new cloud storage service, Google Drive. Cloud storage technologies like Dropbox, and even services run by Apple and Microsoft, have been giving people the ability to store, share, and access data from multiple devices for years, but how many people use these types of services? And how many intend to use Google Drive?
Cloud Technology
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 19% of respondents said they currently us a cloud storage service. 58% said they do not, and 24% said they don’t know what cloud technology is. Men were slightly more likely than women to use cloud storage service, and respondents under 35 years old were far more likely to use cloud technology. Of those respondents who do not currently use a cloud storage service, 5% said they often need access to the same data or documents on different devices. 21% said they sometimes do. 31% rarely do. And 43% said they never need to access data from different devices.
Google Drive
Though its official announcement was very recent, 22% of respondents said they know of Google Drive. Of those respondents, 18% said they definitely plan to use Google Drive. 6% don’t plan to use it because they already use a different cloud storage service. 34% said they don’t plan to use it because they don’t have the need for a cloud storage service. And 42% said they are still undecided about whether or not they’ll use Google Drive. Men, respondents under 35, and those employed full-time were more likely to have heard of Google Drive, and also more likely to say they plan to use it.
Google Docs
Though many are still unsure about whether or not they’ll use Google Drive, early reports have stated that it integrates many of the features of Google Docs, a service that has been around for years. 4% of overall respondents said they use Google Docs often. 13% said they use Google Docs sometimes. 19% rarely use them. And 64% have never used them.
