Kindness Survey: People More Likely to Consider Themselves Kind Than Others

Today is World Kindness Day. It’s a day that’s intended to encourage random acts of kindness and a general increase in kindness around the world. In general, how do people feel about their own kindness and that of the people around them? And are there any locations where kindness is practiced more than others?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 46% of respondents said they consider themselves to be very kind. 40% gave themselves a 4 out of 5 rating in terms of kindness. 13% gave themselves a 3 out of 5 rating. Just 1% gave themselves a 2 out of 5 rating. And less than 1% said they do not consider themselves to be kind at all.But when evaluating others, people don’t seem to be as generous. Just 16% of people said they consider the people around them to be very kind. 34% gave the people around them a 4 out of 5 rating. 39% gave other people a 3 out of 5 rating in terms of kindness. 8% gave others a 2 out of 5 rating. And 4% gave others a 1 out of 5 rating.

Locations

When separated using their state of residence, respondents from Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan and Nevada said that those around them are kind more often than respondents from other states. Respondents in Alabama, Idaho and Virginia did not recognize those around them as being very kind.

Other Traits

When evaluating themselves, Women tended to consider themselves to be slightly kinder than men did. However, they were less likely to recognize those around them as kind people. Respondents under 35 and single people were less likely to recognize themselves as kind, and they were also less likely to recognize others as kind. But parents were more likely to recognize themselves as kind, and just about as likely to recognize those around them as kind.
