Mystery Series Survey: People Still Enjoy Classic Mysteries

The mystery genre is a popular one across a wide variety of formats. From readers to TV watchers and even moviegoers, a good mystery story can grab the attention of people from all walks of life. So in honor of Mystery Series Week, we asked people about their thoughts on mystery stories. Which popular series made the cut?

Mystery Genre

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 64% of respondents said that they at least somewhat enjoy the mystery genre as a whole. Just 13% said they don’t really like mystery stories. And 23% are neutral about the genre.

Popular Formats

Of course, mystery stories are presented in plenty of different formats. 30% of respondents said they choose mystery books all or most of the time. 36% said that they mostly watch mystery themed shows on TV. 33% enjoy mystery movies more than other genres. And 10% even go out of their way to listen to mystery radio shows or podcasts.

More specifically, some of the mystery book series mentioned by respondents include big names like Sherlock Holmes and Nancy Drew. Others named authors like Stephen King, Sue Grafton and James Patterson. Some of the TV shows mentioned include Murder She Wrote, Law and Order: SVU and Sherlock. And Alfred Hitchcock titles led the way as far as movies are concerned.
