Oculus Rift, the highly-anticipated virtual reality device, is now available for pre-order. With a price of $600, some people think the device is a bit too much to have any kind of mass appeal. But some people are still wary of virtual reality, even without a large price tag. So have VR opinions changed at all in recent months? And how many are likely to purchase the new Oculus Rift?

Virtual Reality

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 40% of respondents said that they are generally interested in virtual reality. And 58% said that they fully understand what virtual reality is. Neither the understanding or the interest in virtual reality have really increased over the past few months, according to a September 2015 survey. https://aytm.com/blog/daily-survey-results/pet-products-survey/

Potential Buyers

In general, 38% of respondents said they would be interested in owning a virtual reality device at some point in the future. But more specifically, just 21% said they would be likely to purchase a virtual reality device like the Oculus Rift or Samsung Gear VR within the next two years.

When it comes to the price of the Oculus Rift, just 21% of overall respondents feel that $600 is a fair price for a virtual reality device. But lucky for Oculus, respondents who said they would be likely to buy a VR device in the next two years were 46% more likely to find the $600 price tag to be fair.
