Today is Pi Day, an unofficial holiday that celebrates the number Pi (3.14) each year on 3/14. In math, Pi is used to represent the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, so die-hard Pi fans tend to celebrate this holiday by eating pie and other circular foods. So how many plan to celebrate Pi Day in any way this year? And how are they likely to do so?
Pi Day
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 39% of respondents said that they were already aware of Pi Day. And 62% did not previously know that it existed. Overall, just 15% said that they are likely to celebrate Pi Day in some way this year. 67% said that they are unlikely to do so. And 18% were neutral or undecided.
Pi Celebrations
Of those who are likely to celebrate Pi Day this year, 71% said that they plan to do so by eating pie. 31% said they plan to celebrate by eating other circular foods. Another 31% said they are likely to do Pi related math on Pi Day. 27% said they are likely to make Pi related items. And 18% plan to attend educational events related to Pi Day.
Pie Flavors
Since eating pie is such a popular way for people to celebrate pie day, there’s likely to be a decent demand for various pie flavors around the holiday. The most popular pie flavors among respondents include apple, pumpkin, cherry, pecan, chocolate, blueberry, banana cream and coconut cream. Of those who are likely to celebrate Pi Day, favorite flavors include apple, pumpkin, pecan and lemon.
