The voice cast of “The Simpsons” recently reached a deal that will allow the show to continue for an additional two seasons, or 25 total seasons. The show is already the longest running scripted primetime series in history. Would the show’s end have had a large impact on its current fan base and others who have watched it throughout the years?

Residents of Springfield

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 19% of respondents said they regularly watch new episodes of “The Simpsons.” Of those respondents, 82.9% said they watch it because of the style of humor, 65.8% watch for the characters, 53.9% watch for the stories, and 39.5% enjoy the regular guest stars.

The Simpsons and Pop Culture

Even though just 19% currently tune in every week for new Simpsons episodes, the show’s reach is much larger in reality. 79.8% of respondents have watched at least one episode of “The Simspons” at some point. When asked whether or not the show has changed American pop culture, 56.3% responded yes and 43.8% said no.

Preparing for the End

Though the show has been renewed, there’s no telling what the future holds for Homer, Marge, and the rest of the family. 18.8% of respondents said they would really miss the show if it ended. 22.5% said they don’t really watch it much, but the end would still be sad because the show has been on for so long. 3.5% said the end would not bother them because the show is not what it used to be. 12.3% have never liked the show. And 43% said the eventual end of the show would not really affect them. For now, Simspons fans have another two years of guaranteed entertainment, but the show could come to an end afterward.
