Tumblr Survey: Most Users Neutral or Undecided About Yahoo Acquisition

Yahoo just announced its acquisition of the blogging site Tumblr. This is the biggest purchase since Marissa Mayer took over as Yahoo’s CEO last year. What do Tumblr users think about the site being taken over by Yahoo? And how do people feel about Yahoo and Tumblr in general?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 6% of respondents said that they currently use Tumblr often. Another 11% said they sometimes use Tumblr. And 8% said that they have used the site at some point in the past. Males were slightly more likely than females to use the site. And respondents under 25 were 23% more likely to be current Tumblr users.

Yahoo Merger

Of those who have used Tumblr, just 12% see the acquisition as a positive thing. 22% said they see the site being acquired by Yahoo as a negative. 46% said they have neutral feelings about the merger. And 20% said they are still undecided or were unaware of the acquisition.

Yahoo Opinions

In general, 22% of respondents said that they have a very positive brand perception of Yahoo. 31% described their perception of Yahoo as somewhat positive. 37% said they are neutral or have no opinion about Yahoo. 8% said they have somewhat negative feelings about the company. And just 3% said they have a very negative perception of Yahoo. Current Tumblr users were slightly more likely to have negative feelings about Yahoo.
