Cloud Technology Survey: Understanding Slowly Increasing

Cloud technology is certainly prominent for many tech users today, but there’s still some confusion and concerns surrounding it. While privacy and security are common concerns with many tech-related concepts, many people still don’t fully understand what cloud technology is. So how many currently use this type of technology? And how many have concerns or confusion surrounding it?

Cloud Technology

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, just 10% of respondents said they use cloud technology often. 23% said they sometimes use cloud technology. 15% said they rarely use it. And 32% said they never do. The remaining 20% of respondents said they don’t know what cloud technology is. Understanding has increased a bit since a September 2012 survey, when 30% said they didn’t know about cloud technology. But regular usage hasn’t increased much.

Of those who use cloud technology, 64% use it for personal reasons. 7% use it just for work reasons. And 24% said they use it for both work and personal reasons.

Cloud Activities

There are a lot of popular online activities that utilize the cloud in some way. 69% of overall respondents said they have social networking accounts. 60% use online banking. 48% play online games. 46% of respondents said they have a mobile device that they use to share files or information with their computer or online accounts. 31% use online photo or video sharing services. And just 10% of overall respondents said they don’t use any of these devices or online services.

In some way or another, the above-mentioned online services use the cloud to store files or information. But even of those who said they didn’t use cloud technology or didn’t know what it was, just 17% said they don’t use any of the previously mentioned services. So there are quite a few people who use cloud technology without realizing it.

Cloud Security

Storing files and other information in the cloud can come with some security concerns. And 21% of respondents who use cloud technology said they are very concerned about security issues. 44% said they are somewhat concerned about cloud security. 30% said they are not very concerned about security. And just 5% said they’re not concerned at all.
