America is in the middle of a huge debate over gun control issues. Recent shooting tragedies have many Americans calling for stricter regulations, but some disagree. How many want stricter gun laws? And how closely are Americans paying attention to all the debates over these laws?
In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, just 11% of respondents said that they are very knowledgeable about the gun laws in their city or state. 37% said they feel they are somewhat knowledgeable. 32% said they are not very knowledgeable. And 20% said they are not knowledgeable at all about the gun laws in their city or state.
44% of respondents said that they support stricter gun regulations. 28% said they support simply upholding current gun regulations. Just 9% said they support more relaxed gun regulations. And 20% said that they are undecided.
Overall, 26% of respondents said that shooting tragedies have had a big impact on how they feel about gun control issues. 31% said these tragedies have somewhat impacted their views. And 43% said shooting tragedies have had no impact on their opinions about gun control. Of those whose opinions have been impacted by shooting tragedies, 63% said they support stricter gun regulations.
Only 4% of overall respondents said that they are happy with the progress made by lawmakers in recent months to prevent future shooting tragedies. Another 14% said they think lawmakers are on the right track. 60% said they do not think lawmakers have done enough to prevent future shooting tragedies. And 22% said they are unsure.
