Higher Education Survey: Most Found College Experience Worth the Investment

Higher education has been the subject of much debate recently. Many have said they would like college to be more affordable. But how do those who have been to college feel about their educational investments? And how many owe their careers to their higher education?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 28% of respondents said that they never went to college. 26% said that they attended some college but received no degree. 6% said they have a certificate or trade school education. 10% said they have an Associate’s Degree. 24% said they have a Bachelor’s Degree. Just 4% said they have a Master’s Degree. And 3% said they have other degrees.

Of those who attended at least some college, 38% said that it was definitely worth the financial investment. Another 30% said that their higher education was somewhat worth the financial investment. 17% said they don’t really think their college experience has been worth the investment. 10% said that it has definitely not been worth the financial investment. And 6% were undecided.

Workforce Training

29% of those who attended college said that their current job requires the level of education they’ve reached. 26% said that their current job doesn’t require their degree or level of schooling, but it still helps. And 45% said that their job does not require their current level of education.

18% said that their current job definitely relates to what they studied in college. Another 16% said that their job somewhat relates to what they studied in college. 34% said their current job doesn’t relate to their college studies at all. And 32% said they do not currently have a job.

Future Schooling

Just 14% of overall respondents said they definitely plan to attend more college in the future. 24% said they would probably like to attend more college at some point. 29% said they probably won’t attend any more schooling. And 34% said they definitely do not plan to attend any more schooling. Of those who haven’t attended any college, just 5% said they definitely plan to attend college in the future. And of those who have attended some college but have no degree, 17% said they definitely plan to attend more schooling, and 36% said they probably do.
