Nearby Friends Survey: More Than Half Could Be Interested in New Facebook Feature

Facebook recently announced a new location-based feature for its mobile apps called Nearby Friends. It will allow users to see which of their friends who have the location feature activated are nearest to their current location. Location apps and features have grown in recent years, but how many might be interested in using Facebook’s Nearby Friends feature?

Location Apps

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, just 14% of respondents said they currently use dedicated location-based apps such as Foursquare. Another 14% said they have used these types of apps in the past. And 73% said they have never used location-based apps like Foursquare.

Social Apps

But it’s not just dedicated apps that use location data. General social media sites and apps have also integrated plenty of location-based features. Currently, 8% of respondents said they often use location features on social media platforms like Facebook. 19% said they sometimes use location-based social features. 21% said they rarely use these features. And 52% have never used location-based features on social media sites.

Nearby Friends

More specifically, 24% of overall respondents said they often use Facebook on their phone or mobile device. 21% said they sometimes use Facebook mobile. 13% said they rarely use Facebook mobile. 31% said they never use Facebook on mobile devices. And 12% do not use Facebook at all.

19% of those mobile users said they would definitely be interested in using a feature that shows which of their friends are nearest to their current location. 39% said they would probably be interested in such a feature. 31% said they probably wouldn’t be interested. And 11% said they definitely wouldn’t be interested in Facebook’s new Nearby Friends feature.
