PlayStation 4 Survey: Consumers Split Over New Gaming Consoles

The new PlayStation 4 gaming console has just been released. The release comes just before the busy holiday shopping season, and just before the release of the Xbox One console, one of its main competitors. How many people have ordered or plan to order the PlayStation 4 compared with other gaming systems?

In Ask Your Target Market’s latest survey, 46% of respondents said they currently own at least one non-portable gaming console, such as a PlayStation device. 15% said they have owned one in the past. And 39% said they have never owned a gaming console.

PlayStation was the most popular type of console – 59% of gaming console owners said they have a PlayStation. 50% own a Nintendo Wii. 44% own an Xbox. And 17% own or have owned other types of gaming consoles.

More specifically, just 4% of overall respondents said that they have already bought or ordered a new PlayStation 4. Another 16% said that they definitely plan to buy one soon. And 80% of overall respondents said they have no plans to buy a PlayStation 4. Those who already own a gaming console were 15% more likely to have bought or plan to buy a PlayStation 4. Those who have already owned a PlayStation were 22% more likely to show interest in the PlayStation 4.

Xbox One

One of the PlayStation 4’s main competitors is the upcoming Xbox One. Just 8% said they definitely plan to buy an Xbox One. 11% said they will probably buy one. 34% of respondents said they probably won’t buy an Xbox One. And 47% said they definitely won’t buy one. Those who already own a gaming console were 12% more likely to be interested in buying an Xbox One.
